ASUS ROG Crosshair 2006 anniversary motherboard launches
ASUS has confirmed availability and pricing for the ROG Crosshair 2006, a special edition X870E motherboard made for the 20th anniversary of Republic of Gamers. The board is now available in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. ASUS lists the recommended retail price at 829 EUR or CHF including VAT.
Retro Crosshair design with modern X870E platform and fake copper
The ROG Crosshair 2006 is based on the ROG Crosshair X870E Dark Hero, but it uses a copper-style design with blue and white accents. This color scheme references the first ROG Crosshair motherboard from 2006.
Despite the copper-heavy design, the ROG Crosshair 2006 does not use real copper heatsinks. ASUS says the board uses lightweight aluminum heatsinks with a copper-colored finish to match the original Crosshair design. This has already drawn criticism from some enthusiasts, as the board references a period when copper heatsinks were common and now carries an 829 EUR price tag. ASUS does use real copper on another anniversary model, the ROG Crosshair X870E Edition 20 , which is listed with a full copper VRM heatsink.
ASUS also added a 2-inch OLED screen on the primary M.2 slot. It can show system information such as CPU clock speed, temperatures and fan speeds. Users can also load custom images or animations.
The motherboard supports AMD Ryzen 9000, Ryzen 8000 and Ryzen 7000 desktop processors on the AM5 socket. ASUS lists a 20+2+2 power design. The product page breaks this down as 20 VCORE stages rated at 110A, two SoC stages rated at 110A and two MISC stages rated at 80A.
The board has four DDR5 DIMM slots with support for up to 256GB of memory. ASUS also lists NitroPath DRAM Technology, AEMP, DIMM Fit and DIMM Fit Pro.

For expansion, the ROG Crosshair 2006 offers two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots and five onboard M.2 slots. Two of those M.2 slots support PCIe 5.0 drives, while the remaining slots use PCIe 4.0. Connectivity includes WiFi 7, 10GbE and 5GbE networking, two USB4 Type-C ports and two USB 20Gbps front-panel Type-C headers. One of those headers supports Quick Charge 4+ up to 60W.
ASUS also includes the AIO Q-Connector, which allows compatible liquid coolers to receive power and control signals directly from the motherboard. ASUS says the first compatible coolers are from the new ROG Strix LC IV series.
So the board may look interesting to ASUS fans, but the pricing and fake copper design make it a hard choice even for enthusiasts.
