Unreleased Turing prototype with a 384-bit bus.

This is not a card I recall hearing about before, although many expected NVIDIA to at least consider such a model. A SUPER version of the flagship Turing gaming card was apparently real, but it never reached the market. One sample recently appeared on eBay, and someone has already managed to buy another matching unit through Facebook Marketplace. The card’s original eBay listing may also explain why NVIDIA never released it.

The card features RTX 2080 Ti GPU specs with 12GB memory. It’s the only known engineering sample of the SUPER variant of RTX 2080 Ti . That listing, which has since sold, described the board as PG151 and listed 12GB of GDDR6 memory, a 384-bit bus and 4,608 shaders. The seller also claimed it needs a developer driver, and that Windows 10 has to be set to test mode to install it.

The design is unlike any RTX 20 model released at the time, it had a glossy front plate and black backplate. The card is actually labeled as RTX 2080 SUPER, perhaps because it was developed after the non-Ti model.

This is a rare opportunity to own a never-released RTX 2080 Ti Super engineering sample. This specific prototype was the “Titan Killer” of their generation-designed to bridge the gap between the 2080 Ti and the Titan RTX. They were ultimately shelved and never released because their performance was deemed too close to the flagship Titan model. There were only a handful of these made. This one was almost retail spec as it actually has a serial number.

Closer to Titan RTX than RTX 2080 Ti

Those specs place it closer to Titan RTX than the retail RTX 2080 Ti. NVIDIA’s retail RTX 2080 Ti FE shipped with 4,352 CUDA cores, 11GB GDDR6 and a 352-bit bus. Titan RTX used a 4,608 CUDA core configuration, 24GB GDDR6 and a 384-bit bus. This sample keeps the 12GB memory configuration but reportedly uses the wider bus and full shader count.

The owner says standard drivers did not detect the card. They reportedly edited the hardware ID into NVIDIA driver INF files so the installer would accept it. This is similar to other Turing prototypes, where missing driver support is often the main problem rather than the hardware itself.

This is not the first time a 12GB Turing Ti prototype has surfaced. We once covered GTX-branded RTX 2080 Ti prototypes with 12GB memory and a 384-bit bus. The only difference here is the SUPER branding and black shroud, which may make this sample part of a later or separate NVIDIA validation project.

NVIDIA never launched an RTX 2080 Ti SUPER. The company released RTX 2060 SUPER, RTX 2070 SUPER and RTX 2080 SUPER, while RTX 2080 Ti remained the top GeForce model below Titan RTX.
