Microsoft updates Advanced Shader Delivery with general availability in Xbox PC app
Xbox Insider signup no longer required.
Microsoft has updated its Advanced Shader Delivery rollout for Windows PCs. The feature is now generally available through the Xbox PC app, with no Xbox Insider signup required.
The update was added to Microsoft’s DirectX Developer Blog on June 11. The original post was published on May 15 with a mention that the feature is only for Xbox Insiders at the time. Microsoft now says Advanced Shader Delivery has moved beyond that preview stage in the Xbox PC app.
AMD expands support to RDNA1
AMD support has also been expanded. Microsoft now lists RDNA 1, RDNA 2, RDNA 3, RDNA 3.5 and RDNA 4 as supported architectures. The current requirements also include Windows 11 24H2 or newer, Xbox Gaming Services 37.113.11003.0 or newer, and AMD Adrenalin 26.6.1 or newer.

Shader precompilation reduced to seconds
Advanced Shader Delivery works by delivering precompiled shaders with the game download. This reduces the amount of shader compilation that must happen during first launch or gameplay. Microsoft says the feature can reduce load times and shader stutter in supported games.
Forza Horizon 6 remains Microsoft’s main example. The company says the game loads in 4 seconds with Advanced Shader Delivery, compared with almost 1.5 minutes without it. Microsoft calls this a 95% reduction. The blog still has a hardware mismatch, as one image caption mentions Radeon RX 9060, while the text lists Radeon RX 7600 and Ryzen 7 5800.

Microsoft previously limited the preview to RDNA 3 and newer GPUs through the Xbox Insider Hub. We also covered third-party testing on a Radeon RX 9070 XT system, where Forza Horizon 6 load time dropped to 2 seconds in one test.
