Corsair GPU Power Bridge rated for up to 105°C melts on RTX 4090 Founders Edition

High Thermal Endurance, just not for this user

A Redditor claims that Corsair’s PCIe 5.0 12V-2×6 GPU Power Bridge melted while connected to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition.

The adapter is listed by Corsair as a 180-degree bridge for PCIe 5.0 graphics cards. It is designed to route the power cable away from the side panel and reduce stress on the connector. Corsair sells the adapter for $25 and advertises it with “High Thermal Endurance,” claiming support for up to 55A of current and temperatures up to 105°C.

According to the Reddit post, the system began freezing and restarting as soon as a game was launched. After removing the graphics card, the user found that the Corsair GPU Power Bridge had melted along the top row of pins. The heat also deformed the plastic power connector on the RTX 4090 Founders Edition.

The user says the adapter is already outside its warranty period, while the RTX 4090 itself is still covered. In a later reply, the user added that NVIDIA support had started the RMA process, though it is not yet clear whether the card will be replaced.

CableMod discontinued its adapter

This is not the first 12VHPWR or 12V-2×6 adapter story involving a melted connector. As you may recall, CableMod explored similar ideas for adapters. The company even released a revised version later. However, the adapter still suffered from failures, RMA disputes, and repair shops replacing large numbers of RTX 4090 power connectors. This eventually led CableMod to cease production and issuing refunds to users.

Corsair’s bridge is a different product, but the basic issue looks familiar: an extra adapter sits between the GPU and the power cable, and that point becomes another possible failure location. I think both adapters were not aimed at active GPU protection, more like a way to avoid bending cables near otherwise fragile designs.

I do not recall any reports on this particular adapter, so it’s either less popular or safer than CableMod’s. Hopefully for this user, either Corsair or NVIDIA steps in and restores the RTX 4090 to its full glory.
