Intel to launch Core 200 “Raptor Lake Next” in 2027 for LGA-1700 socket

Intel giving DDR4 platform one more upgrade

Yesterday, Tom’s Hardware shared its insight into a new Intel update called Raptor Lake Next. It did not provide many details beyond a chat with people at the Computex expo, who confirmed that such a product is coming. Rumors about a third refresh of Raptor Lake are not new, as the first indicators appeared around two months ago . We decided to dig deeper.

Core 200 “Raptor Lake Next”

What we can now confirm is that Raptor Lake Next is the official codename. We can also confirm that the new CPU series will appear under the Core 200 lineup, not Core 14. On paper, this looks like a simple rebrand of the existing Raptor Lake series. Intel does not list any changes, but confirms full socket compatibility with existing platforms, for both laptops and desktops.

This means Core 200 “Raptor Lake Next” will support DDR5 and DDR4 platforms. Intel appears to be learning from AMD here, which is relaunching its Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU while keeping support for the DDR4 platform.

What we can also confirm is that the Core 200 Raptor Lake Next production is currently planned for late January 2027. Yes, you will not be able to buy it sooner. Qualification samples are expected by the end of this year at the earliest. This is the current roadmap information we have.

I actually have some specs to share already, but we can confirm there is a 125W 16-core CPU planned, with 8 P-Cores and 8 E-Cores. I did not see 8+16 mentioned (yet). Intel is also planning a 65W 20-core model with 8 P-Cores and 12 E-Cores, a 10-core model with 6 P-Cores and 4 E-Cores, and a 4-core model with 4 P-Cores and no E-Cores.

So in 2027, Core 200 products will appear on shelves, but they will not work with either LGA-1851 or LGA-1954 platforms. They are intended for LGA-1700. In that sense, LGA-1851 looks like one of Intel’s weakest platform updates, because it only featured one product stack, Arrow Lake and its refresh. LGA-1700, on the other hand, got Alder Lake and will have three Raptor Lake generations.
