Sandisk lists 8TB PS5 SSD for nearly $3,000
Officially licensed Optimus GX PRO 850P tops out at 8TB.
Sandisk has launched the Optimus GX PRO 850P NVMe SSD for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro consoles. The drive is an officially licensed PCIe SSD model with a heatsink designed for the PS5 M.2 slot.
The new series comes in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB and 8TB capacities. The 2TB and 4TB models are rated for up to 7,300 MB/s sequential read and 6,600 MB/s sequential write speeds. The 8TB model is slightly lower on reads at 7,200 MB/s but keeps the same 6,600 MB/s write rating. So yes, this is not even PCIe Gen5 SSDs (which PS5 does not support).
Sandisk also lists up to 1.2M random read and 1.2M random write IOPS on the 8TB model. Endurance is rated at 600 TBW for 1TB, 1200 TBW for 2TB, 2400 TBW for 4TB and 4800 TBW for 8TB. All capacities carry a five-year limited warranty.

Price looks next-gen
Prices are the part that will draw most of the attention. Sandisk’s US store listed the 8TB model at $2,959.99 as a launch offer , down from $3,699.99. The same pricing table listed 1TB at $379.99, 2TB at $759.99 and 4TB at $1,499.99.

At $2,959.99, the 8TB PS5 SSD costs about 4.6 times as much as the current US PS5 price of $649.99. Sony raised PS5 console prices on April 2, setting the standard PS5 at $649.99, the Digital Edition at $599.99 and the PS5 Pro at $899.99 in the US.
The 850P also arrives after Sandisk moved its consumer SSD lineup under the Optimus brand. The company announced at CES 2026 that WD_BLACK and WD Blue NVMe drives would transition to Sandisk Optimus branding, with GX PRO acting as the top consumer tier.
