Steam Frame controller FCC photos show AA battery layout
Valve’s Steam Frame has appeared again through public FCC documents. The latest filing for Valve 1013 includes external photos, internal photos, test setup images and manual documents. The photos focus on the Steam Frame controller and show the device from several angles.
The external photos show a compact VR controller with a thumbstick, D-pad, face buttons, trigger area and a circular tracking section. The internal photos also show the battery compartment inside the grip. Valve’s manual says each controller uses a single disposable AA battery, with rechargeable AA batteries supported but not included.

The battery detail comes from the safety manual. Valve lists a “Frame Enthusiast kit” that “also includes a hot-swappable lithium-ion battery pack.” The same document says the controller triggers, face gasket attachment and Enthusiast accessory battery pack use magnets.

Steam Frame is Valve’s standalone VR headset running SteamOS. Valve’s developer documentation says it targets low-latency streaming from a PC, while also supporting standalone VR and non-VR experiences.
