Epic says rebuilt launcher is 5x faster to start

Launcher V2 public release appears on the 12-month roadmap.

Epic Games is preparing a major redesign of the Epic Games Store and Launcher. New presentation slides show a redesigned storefront, new product detail pages and a roadmap covering the next 12 months.

The main launcher slide calls the update a “ground-up rebuild of the Epic Games Launcher.” Epic claims the new version delivers 5x faster cold starts on average and 6.5x faster restore from the system tray to the library . This appears to target one of the most common complaints about the current Epic Games Launcher: slow navigation and delayed page loads.

Epic already confirmed earlier this year that it was rebuilding the underlying architecture of the Epic Games Store Launcher. The company said the changes would make the storefront feel more responsive, with faster load times and better stability. The roadmap also listed player profiles, avatars, private messaging, voice chat and game-independent parties as planned social features.

The presentation also shows a redesigned storefront home page. Epic describes it as a personalized home for game recommendations, with quick-access categories and a scrollable hero section. The product pages are also being redesigned to connect players to game communities, story content and progression data instead of using a static store listing.

One slide lists several items under “Up First,” including Fortnite Chunked Installation, Epic Parties, 3P Patch Notes, pre-registration for free-to-play games, Storefront Rearchitecture, Launcher V2 Private Beta and library management improvements. The “Up Next” section includes UX and design improvements, user-written reviews, discovery improvements, personalization, publisher-funded coupons, search improvements and Launcher V2 Public Release.

There is also a small hardware footnote for the launcher performance test. The slide says the tests ran on Windows 11, a 3.5 GHz 32-core AMD Threadripper system, 128GB of RAM and “RTC A6000.” That GPU name appears to be an error because NVIDIA has an RTX A6000 workstation GPU.

Epic is also preparing native 3P Patch Notes for game storefronts. The slide says patch notes will live directly on a game’s store page, with publishing handled through the Developer Portal. Developers will be able to use rich text, images and scheduled posts, while players can receive notifications when updates are published.
