Anbernic RG 55G1 teaser confirms new horizontal handheld
Anbernic has revealed the RG 55G1, a new horizontal gaming handheld with a design that looks close to Nintendo’s Switch Lite.
The company has not shared full specifications yet. Its official teaser only confirms that the handheld is “about to debut” and mentions a “new core,” a new visual experience, and upgraded craftsmanship and user experience.
Switch Lite shape, Hall sticks and RGB lighting
The RG 55G1 uses symmetrical 3D Hall-Effect thumbsticks with RGB ring lighting. It also features Hall-Effect triggers and ABXY buttons arranged in Nintendo Switch layout. The handheld has a full glass front with 2.5D glass, dual front-facing speakers, a cooling fan, a 3.5 mm audio jack, USB-C, and a TF card slot. Three color options are expected at launch: Indigo, Retro Gray with colored ABXY buttons, and Black.
Anbernic has not confirmed the chipset, display size, memory configuration, storage, price, or launch date. It is rumored to be using a 5.5-inch LCD and a Snapdragon chip.
The RG 55G1 appears to be another Android-style retro handheld rather than a direct Switch Lite replacement. Switch game emulation support will depend on the SoC, GPU drivers, memory, and software stack, none of which have been announced yet.
