Sony removes PC wording from PlayStation strategy, adds AI focus instead

Sony’s annual report adds AI tools to PlayStation strategy, removes PC line

Game File spotted that Sony changed the PlayStation section of its latest annual report, and the new wording is different from the 2025 version. The most visible edit is the absence of PC from Sony’s first-party game plan. The 2025 report said Sony would “deploy its first-party titles to multiple platforms such as PC.” The 2026 report does not repeat that line. Also, last year, the same section said Sony wanted “sustainable and profitable business growth.” This year, it only says “sustainable business growth.”

Sony still says single-player games remain central to PlayStation Studios. The new filing says the company wants a stable revenue base from “consistent, annual releases of single-player games. ” It also says Sony will continue building a live service game portfolio, which remains part of its first-party software plan.

AI first

AI now gets its own place in the PlayStation strategy section. Sony says it is “ utilizing AI to unleash the creativity of studios. ” The company says AI tools can improve productivity in development and help teams spend more time on richer game worlds and gameplay. Sony also mentions AI for PlayStation Store transactions, recommendations, visual quality and gameplay improvements.

Navigating through supply shortages

Sony says PlayStation hardware will be affected by “increased prices and supply shortages of memory semiconductors.” The company says it will manage the effect on profitability by adjusting unit sales and promotions. This fits the wider component cost pressure already linked to console pricing and future hardware planning.

PlayStation drops 'PC', adds 'AI' in a new annual business report.

Last month, they stated that "AI is a powerful tool – but it is not a replacement for artists or creators." https://t.co/vTLJDaXT52 pic.twitter.com/0V0KT3Z38T

PlayStation still ended the fiscal year with stronger operating profit. Sony reported G&NS operating income of 463.3 billion yen, up 48.4 billion yen year over year, despite a 120.1 billion yen impairment tied to Bungie assets. PlayStation headcount also rose from 12,100 to 12,300 employees, after falling in the prior year.
