Valve knows you are reading its code
Valve has added a new variable to Dota 2 that appears to be aimed directly at dataminers tracking Half-Life 3 references.
According to Gabe Follower, a known Valve dataminer, the latest Dota 2 update includes a variable named “ m_bHackWhyAreYouGuysReadingOurVariableNames. ” This is not a Half-Life 3 confirmation, on a contrary, Valve developers are aware that even small internal labels now get checked for possible HLX references.
HLX has been used by dataminers as the reported internal name for a new Half-Life project. Over the past months, references found in Valve games have been linked to physics systems, destruction, vehicle behavior and AI-related features. None of this has been confirmed by Valve.
The new variable is perhaps the clearest sign that Valve is following the speculation. It also shows that the company is not above making fun of how closely every Dota 2, Counter-Strike 2 or Steam update is being inspected.

Valve fans expect HL3 news long Steam Machine update
As reported earlier, Steam Machine and Steam Frame are now expected to ship this summer. In fact rumors suggest a new embargo may lift next week, possibly related to reviews and preorders. Many Valve fans were expecting news about Half Life 3 along these updates. However, nothing suggests that something like this may actually take place.
