Three people have died and five injured in a school shooting in Central Philippines , police said. Two persons of interest – one of them a 15-year-old Grade 9 student of the school – are now in police custody, the Inquirer reported.

The shooting occurred at around 9am on Monday morning at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City.

“The victims were immediately transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment and appropriate medical intervention,” regional police said in a statement.

‎One suspect, classified as a Child In Conflict with the Law and a resident of Barangay San Jose, was arrested at the scene while the other later ‌surrendered to authorities.

“The [police] have already caught the suspects. They acted quickly,” presidential spokeswoman Claire Castro told reporters.

Tacloban City police chief Noelito Getigan said the suspects used a .38-caliber ‌and 9mm firearm in the shooting.
