Steam Machine pricing now overlaps with a large number of prebuilt gaming PCs in the US. This does not make them direct replacements, since Valve’s system uses SteamOS, a compact custom design and a console-like setup process. However, Valve confirmed yesterday they are working with NVIDIA to enable better support for their operating system, so it’s only a matter of time.
Gamers Nexus tested the Steam Machine against a wide GPU stack and included a comparison to an RTX 5060-based PC. In Starfield at 1080p Ultra, Steam Machine landed at 41.4 FPS on average. This placed it close to older cards such as Radeon RX 5700, Arc A750 and Radeon RX 6600. In Oblivion Remastered at 1080p Ultra raster, the system reached 27.0 FPS, below the tested GeForce RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti cards.

That makes current $900 to $1400 prebuilt PCs worth checking, at least for users who are fine with Windows and a larger desktop tower. The cheapest systems in this range usually ship with GeForce RTX 5060 graphics, while some higher-priced options move to RTX 5060 Ti. Several also include 32GB of memory, but CPU, RAM generation and power supply quality can vary between listings.
The last system costs $1279, but you are given RTX 5060 Ti GPU, which is hard to ignore.
Keep in mind that these PCs are only on sale for a limited time, so they may be gone by the time you read this.
