Retroid Pocket Nova gets 4.5-inch AMOLED 120Hz screen
Retroid says no second mortgage is needed for its new 4:3 OLED handheld.
Retroid has revealed the design and display specifications for Pocket Nova, its next Android handheld aimed at retro gaming and emulation users. The company shared a new image showing the device with a frosted translucent shell and a wide horizontal layout.
The teaser also includes a pricing joke from Retroid. The company says this is “the 4:3 OLED screen you’ve been dreaming of” with “ no second mortgage needed. ” Retroid has not confirmed the actual price yet. While we do not usually cover retro and compact handhelds, this one feels relevant given Valve’s recent announcement .
4:3 AMOLED at 120Hz
The Pocket Nova will feature a 4.5-inch AMOLED display with a 4:3 aspect ratio. The panel has a 1280×960 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. That makes it larger and faster than the discontinued Retroid Pocket Mini V2 display. That model used a 3.92-inch OLED panel with a 1240×1080 resolution and 60Hz refresh rate, according to Notebookcheck. The screen is simply put, tiny.

The image shows clear D-pad and ABXY buttons, symmetrical thumbsticks, RGB rings around both sticks and front-facing speaker cutouts. Retroid has only shown one frosted translucent version so far, though more colors may follow later.

The 4:3 format is aimed at older console libraries, where many games were designed for that aspect ratio. The 1280×960 resolution also gives the device a 4:3 pixel layout without stretching or cropping.
Retroid has not confirmed the chipset, memory configuration, battery capacity, software version or launch date. The company has also not confirmed whether Pocket Nova will use the same control layout across all variants.
