Auto-Charge Tracker makes Steam Controller move toward its charging dock
A browser-based tracker follows the controller and uses its own motors to move it toward the charging Puck.

A modder has created a browser-based tool that can guide Valve’s 2026 Steam Controller back to its charging station using camera tracking and vibration motors. These are the same vibration motors that can produce funny sounds, as we mentioned in one of the earlier articles .
The project was made by Ray Foss, who posted a short demo on X showing the controller moving toward its dock without being placed there by hand. The tool is called Auto-Charge Tracker and is available through a GitHub Pages site.
The setup uses a camera to track points on the controller. It then triggers the Steam Controller’s vibration motors to move the device across a surface and toward the charging Puck.

Foss says the tracking points are “bit finicky” and that the tool tries to remember the target position. He also notes that success is not guaranteed, although the project is described as easy to try. The motor tuning is intended for the 2026 Steam Controller.
Valve’s new Steam Controller already supports charging through the Puck or USB-C. The Puck acts as both a charging station and a wireless receiver. This mod focuses on the missing part: getting the controller to the dock by itself.
Now, if someone can make Valve hardware return to a more affordable price, that would be even better.
