PlayStation 6 parts cost estimate climbs near $1,000, according to Kepler_L2
A new estimate from Kepler_L2 suggests that the PlayStation 6 bill of materials has increased by around $200 since March. The same leaker previously estimated the console BOM at around $760, which would place the updated estimate near $960.
Sony has not announced PlayStation 6 specifications, pricing, launch timing, or the final hardware configuration. Microsoft has been more open about Project Helix, its next-generation Xbox platform, while Sony has not yet discussed its next-generation console plans or when new hardware could be ready for release. Also, the estimate also refers only to the bill of materials, not the final retail price. Sony may choose to subsidize the hardware or just the opposite, add a higher price tag to avoid any potential price adjustments later.
In March, Kepler_L2 said their PS6 BOM estimate was around $760. At the time, they argued that a $699 console price was still possible if Sony accepted a reasonable subsidy on each unit.

The updated comment changes that calculation. A roughly $200 increase would make a $699 price much harder to support without a larger subsidy, assuming the estimate is accurate and the hardware target has not changed.

The latest comment comes as memory and NAND prices continue to rise across the industry. Higher DRAM and storage costs have already affected PC hardware, handhelds, and prebuilt systems.
Of course, this is just speculation, this does not confirm a PlayStation 6 price near $1,000. Console pricing also depends on Sony’s margin target, launch strategy, regional taxes, retailer margins, and whether the company sells hardware at a loss during the launch window.
