First modern SteamOS prebuilt gaming PC appears with Ryzen 5 9600X and RX 7600
MetaPCs launches Steamroller, a $1,299 prebuilt gaming PC with SteamOS installed.
MetaPCs has opened preorders for Steamroller, a new gaming desktop listed at $1,299. The system is not interesting only because it uses desktop PC hardware similar to Steam Machine’s. We have already covered prebuilt PCs in a similar price range.
The important part is the operating system. MetaPCs says Steamroller ships with SteamOS installed, making it one of the first modern prebuilt gaming PCs we have seen in the new Steam Machine era to use Valve’s gaming OS by default.
SteamOS enters gaming desktops
The system is based on AMD Ryzen 5 9600X and Radeon RX 7600 . The CPU is a 6-core Zen 5 desktop processor, while the graphics card is a standard RDNA3 desktop GPU with 32 Compute Units and 2048 Stream Processors.

MetaPCs also lists 16GB of DDR5-5600 memory, a 1TB NVMe SSD, a B650M or B850M WiFi motherboard, a 240mm AIO cooler and a 650W 80+ Gold power supply. The system is built inside a Jonsbo D32 black case, which means this is a standard desktop PC rather than a compact console-style system.
3rd party SteamOS systems from the past
Compared to Valve’s Steam Machine, Steamroller has a stronger desktop-class CPU and a Radeon RX 7600 GPU with more Compute Units than Valve’s semi-custom RDNA3 graphics processor. Valve’s system is still a different product class. It is smaller, built around a custom enclosure and designed as a living-room PC with Valve’s own controller experience.
The idea of SteamOS PCs is not new. Valve’s first Steam Machines from Alienware, Zotac and CyberPower launched in 2015. The difference now is that SteamOS has returned with the Steam Deck, Proton support is much stronger and Valve is again pushing SteamOS beyond its own handheld. And now it’s being added to the actual desktops.
