Sony confirms PlayStation Store closure schedule for PS3 and PS Vita
The first affected countries are Mexico, Honduras and Nicaragua. Sony says additional Latin American and Middle Eastern countries will follow in late 2026. In all other countries, PlayStation Store on PS3 and PS Vita will close in July 2027.
Purchases will no longer be possible
Once the store closes on these devices, users will no longer be able to make new content purchases directly from PS3 or PS Vita. Sony says users will still be able to download previously purchased content after the closing date “for the foreseeable future.” The company did not give an end date for access to existing libraries.
Sony says the decision is tied to commerce system updates. According to the company, PS3 and PS Vita can no longer support newer PlayStation Store requirements, including updated payment processing standards, at the required level.
As the PlayStation Store continues to evolve to support modern commerce systems, including updated payment processing standards, PS3 and PS Vita are no longer able to support these updates at the level required. As a result, we will need to close PlayStation Store on these devices in the timeframes as follows:
- Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua – PlayStation Store on PS3 will close starting August 2026.
- Additional Latin American and Middle Eastern countries – PlayStation Store on PS3 will close starting late 2026.
- In all other countries, PlayStation Store on PS3 and PS Vita will close in July 2027.
This is the second PlayStation legacy store closure attempt
Sony already tried to close the PS3 and PS Vita stores in 2021. That decision was later reversed after user feedback, while PSP commerce functionality still ended on July 2, 2021.
This time, Sony has provided a regional schedule. The first PS3 Store closures will start in August 2026, with the wider PS3 and PS Vita shutdown planned for July 2027.

The announcement was published on the same day Sony confirmed another major change for PlayStation distribution. Starting January 2028, new PlayStation games will no longer be released on physical discs. New games will instead be available through PlayStation Store and retailers in digital formats only.
