Don’t try this at home: RTX 5090D hits 4 GHz with external clock board and LN2 cooling

Team OGS has posted a new HWBOT submission with the GeForce RTX 5090D running at 4002 MHz. This appears to be the first RTX Blackwell GPU listed at 4 GHz in a validated benchmark entry.
The result was achieved with the GALAX GeForce RTX 5090D HOF OC Lab Edition. This is the original RTX 5090D variant, not the later RTX 5090D V2 model with a reduced memory configuration. The HWBOT entry lists the card as a GB202-based HOF OC Lab Edition cooled with liquid nitrogen.
4 GHz Blackwell GPU clock
The benchmark used for validation was GPUPI v3.3 32B. Team OGS completed the run in 35 seconds and 377 milliseconds, with the GPU clock listed at 4002 MHz and memory at 1860 MHz.

GPUPI is a lightweight compute benchmark. It does not require the full GPU to be active in the same way as a 3D workload. This allows extreme overclockers to reach higher clocks than would be possible in heavier benchmarks or games.
Perhaps I should also mention that there is also no official GPU frequency world record list equivalent to CPU frequency rankings. In reality, GPUPI has become one of the main reference points for maximum graphics card clocks.

According to the submission comment, the setup used an Elmor External Clock Board set to 28.7 MHz. The card was cooled with a Bitspower Strata LN2 GPU Pot and Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme thermal paste.
The rest of the test platform included an Intel Core i9-14900KF running at 6.0 GHz, an ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Apex Encore motherboard, 32GB of Corsair Vengeance DDR5 memory, and a Corsair WS3000 power supply.

The RTX 5090D HOF OC Lab is built for extreme overclocking. The RTX 5090D V2 HOF OC Lab Plus-X , which retained the 36-phase VRM design but moved to a reduced 24GB memory configuration and 384-bit bus.
This result is only relevant to extreme overclocking. It does not represent retail gaming clocks, air-cooled performance, or a setting users can reproduce with standard RTX 5090D cards.
