Shuttle XPC cube SB860R8 brings Core Ultra 200S support to a 14L chassis

Shuttle has launched the XPC cube SB860R8, a 14L barebone system for Intel Core Ultra 200 series desktop processors. The system uses the Intel B860 chipset and supports LGA1851 CPUs with up to 125W Processor Base Power. It also includes a 500W Flex-ATX 80 PLUS Gold power supply and Shuttle’s I.C.E. heat-pipe cooling system.
The SB860R8 is not a complete PC. Buyers still need to add a CPU, DDR5 memory, storage and possibly a graphics card. The system supports dual-slot GPUs up to 280 × 120 × 40 mm through a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, with one 6-pin and one 8-pin PCIe power connector available.

Not a Steam Machine alternative
Some comparisons with Valve’s Steam Machine are expected due to the cube-shaped design, but they do not make much sense beyond the basic form factor. Valve’s system starts at $1,049 as a complete PC, while Shuttle’s barebone reportedly costs $699 before adding the main components. That is already almost 70% of the Steam Machine price for the chassis, motherboard, cooler and PSU alone.
Size is another problem for this comparison. Valve’s Steam Machine is around 3.8 liters, based on its 15.6 × 15.2 × 16.2 cm dimensions. Shuttle’s SB860R8 is listed as a 14L system, which makes it roughly 3.5 times larger. It may still be compact for a workstation or small server, but it is much bulkier than Valve’s living-room PC.

The SB860R8 also looks similar in concept to LDLC’s short-lived Stim Machine , a French retailer’s compact PC that directly mocked Valve’s Steam Machine pricing. LDLC later removed the Stim Machine branding and changed the listing to a more generic PC Box page.
