FFmpeg developer Lynne who is responsible for much of the Vulkan magic within the FFmpeg multimedia library has landed "apv_encode_vulkan" as the first Vulkan APV encoder out there. This complements Lynne's earlier Vulkan APV decode efforts.
As of today this new Vulkan API encoder is merged in FFmpeg Git.
APV is the leading open-source alternative to Apple's ProRes video codec that is supported from the likes of Samsung to DaVinci Resolve for high fidelity, high quality video content. APV is also supported on Google Android 16+. The OpenAPV project provides a CPU-based APV encoder/decoder while now in the FFmpeg space we are seeing this Vulkan support for GPU acceleration.
