AMD Navi 31 prototype card appears with RX 7900 XTX ID and GRE-like specs
A Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card purchased on the second-hand market appears to be a prototype or engineering sample. The card was shown by Redditor Shav_tech, who said it was bought as a regular RX 7900 XTX.
The board does not match a standard retail card. It uses a red PCB, has no backplate and includes extra connectors on the upper part of the PCB. The owner also reports a custom VBIOS and no markings on the GPU die.
Non-retail PCB with validation headers
The extra connectors suggest this board may have been used for validation or debugging. Such headers can be used for board telemetry, signal testing or firmware recovery during development.
The more unusual part is the memory configuration. The PCB appears to carry 12 memory packages, which would fit a 24GB Navi 31 layout. However, Windows and GPU-Z reportedly detect only 16GB of dedicated memory. It looks that somebody intentionally disabled some cores.

Detected as XTX, configured closer to GRE
The card is identified as Radeon RX 7900 XTX and Navi 31 through software, but several reported specifications are closer to Radeon RX 7900 GRE. The memory capacity is 16GB and the memory bus is listed as 256-bit. AMD’s retail RX 7900 XTX specification is 24GB GDDR6 on a 384-bit bus, while RX 7900 GRE uses 16GB GDDR6 on a 256-bit bus.

Shav_tech said the card refused to flash with an RX 7900 GRE BIOS. That makes a simple GRE card with a spoofed XTX BIOS less likely, although it does not fully confirm what this board was used for.

It may be a Navi 31 validation board configured with disabled memory channels or a pre-production sample for a cut-down design. Interestingly, the BIOS name mentions D702_XTX_A0_24GB, which doesn’t match the memory specs. Definitely a weird Radeon GPU.
