Notebookcheck tests YMTC laptop SSD in Lenovo ThinkBook 14 G9
Lenovo is now shipping at least one ThinkBook 14 G9 configuration with an SSD from Yangtze Memory Technologies, better known as YMTC . Notebookcheck reports that this is the first YMTC laptop SSD it has tested.
The drive was found in the Lenovo T hinkBook 14 G9 IPL. This is a 14-inch office laptop based on Intel Core Ultra 200-series processors. The tested unit uses a 512GB SSD in the M.2 2242 form factor.
According to the review, the drive is connected through PCIe NVMe 4.0. This makes it a modern laptop SSD on paper, although its benchmark results are below many competing drives used in similar office systems.

Slower than most office laptop SSDs tested
Notebookcheck measured sequential read speeds of up to 3950 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 2514 MB/s. The review also notes that the drive had some throttling under load.
The 4K performance was also described as below average. However, the review states that the drive is still fast enough for everyday use in an office laptop.

The appearance of a YMTC SSD in a Lenovo laptop comes as the storage market faces stronger demand from AI data centers. NAND, DRAM and HDD supply has tightened, which has affected component pricing and laptop costs.
YMTC is one of China’s main NAND flash suppliers. Its presence in a Lenovo laptop does not make it a new SSD brand globally, but it shows that Chinese-made storage is now appearing in mainstream OEM systems outside the usual Samsung, Kioxia and Western Digital supply chain.
