Intel Nova Lake S gets more graphics PCI IDs in Linux 7.3 patches
The Xe driver now recognizes seven Nova Lake S graphics device IDs.
Intel’s next desktop platform continues to appear in Linux driver updates. The first pull request for Linux 7.3 adds more PCI device IDs for Nova Lake S graphics support.
According to Phoronix, Intel has added 0xD74A and 0xD74B as new Nova Lake S entries for integrated Xe3P graphics. At the same time, 0xD744 was removed from the Nova Lake S list, which suggests it may have been an early engineering entry or was no longer mapped to this platform.
PCI IDs do not always mean confirmed product SKUs
The change brings the number of Nova Lake-S graphics PCI IDs recognized by the Xe Linux driver to seven. However, these IDs often change during development and many never appear in retail products. This does not mean there will be seven desktop SKUs. There could be fewer, or even more, depending on how Intel maps these IDs to final products. Intel also appears to be reworking its integrated graphics naming around Arc branding, so several IDs may end up under the same product name, while others may represent small configuration differences exposed under a separate brand (think Arc B390 if memory speed is adequate and not).

Phoronix adds, that the same driver pull also includes more Nova Lake workarounds, DRM RAS updates, fixes, and cleanup work. Intel is also changing Protected Xe Path support with Nova Lake. PXP is Intel’s protected graphics path for encrypted media buffers. Starting with Nova Lake’s Media 35 engine, this feature no longer requires HuC (HEVC/H.265 microcontroller) firmware from the kernel driver.
Linux 7.3 is still in preparation, with the merge window expected in the second half of August. More Intel graphics driver updates are likely to appear before that window opens.
Intel stated that Nova Lake should appear this year, but the company never made it clear if that’s the plan for desktop or mobile variants.
