HP HyperX OMEN 15 adds Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus and RTX 5070 option for $2,779

HP updates HyperX OMEN 15 with Intel Arrow Lake HX and RTX 5070 graphics

The 15.3-inch Omen gaming laptop can now be configured with Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX or Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processors. The latter is Intel’s current 24-core Arrow Lake HX refresh chip with 8 Performance cores and 16 Efficient cores, a 5.5 GHz max turbo clock and a 55W base power.

This is a change from the earlier HyperX OMEN 15 configuration we covered, which focused on Core Ultra 7 356H and Core Ultra 9 386H options paired with GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop graphics. HP’s own gaming laptop page still lists the Intel HyperX OMEN 15 with up to Core Ultra 9 386H, but the configurator has now started exposing higher-end HX options.

The Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus and GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU configuration is currently listed at $2,779. This is the lowest configuration for that CPU/GPU pairing and includes 16GB of DDR5 memory (I chose 2x8GB config). HP also offers up to 32GB of RAM and up to 1TB PCIe Gen5 storage on this model.

The display options include a 15.3-inch 1920×1200 IPS panel with a 165 Hz refresh rate, 400 nits brightness and VRR support. HP also offers a 2560×1600 IPS panel with a 180 Hz refresh rate, 3 ms response time, 500 nits brightness and 100% sRGB coverage. A 2880×1800 OLED option with 120 Hz refresh rate is also listed on the product page.

Worth noting that HP also offers AMD version of this laptop. It starts lower at $1,699 and that model can be configured with Ryzen 7 8745HX or Ryzen 9 8940HX processors, although the Ryzen 9 option is paired with the GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU rather than the RTX 5070.
