Nintendo Switch 2 EU replaceable battery revision starts this summer
Nintendo has confirmed new battery-related revisions for selected Nintendo products in Europe. The changes are being introduced ahead of European battery regulations coming into effect in mid-February 2027.
According to Nintendo, revised products will contain user-replaceable batteries . The company says there is no difference in functionality between current products and the revised versions. The rollout will begin this summer and continue through autumn, winter, and early 2027.
Switch 2 console revision arrives this autumn
The first revised products will be selected Joy-Con pairs, including Joy-Con (L) Neon Blue and Joy-Con (R) Neon Red. Nintendo says different colors will become available at different times during the year, starting this summer. Battery capacity and weight remain unchanged for these models.
The revised Nintendo Switch 2 console is expected to arrive through Nintendo Store in Europe this autumn. It will use a 5172mAh battery, down from 5220mAh in the current version. That is around 1% smaller. The included Joy-Con 2 controllers will also contain user-replaceable batteries.
The revised Switch 2 console will weigh around 411 grams, up from around 401 grams. With Joy-Con 2 controllers attached, the system will weigh around 548 grams, up from around 534 grams. Nintendo says availability may vary by country and retailer.
Original Switch sales end in Europe in February 2027
Nintendo also confirmed its plan for the existing Switch family in Europe. Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch OLED will continue to be manufactured in 2026 and should remain widely available in Europe throughout the year.

From mid-February 2027, Nintendo will no longer sell hardware from the original Switch family to retailers in Europe. Sales of Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch OLED through Nintendo Store will also end at the same time. This is almost ten years after the original Switch launched in March 2017.
Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch – OLED Model will all continue to be manufactured in 2026, and should be widely available in Europe all year.
From mid-February 2027, almost ten years after Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017, Nintendo will no longer sell to retailers hardware in the Nintendo Switch family of systems – specifically Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite and Nintendo Switch – OLED Model. Nintendo says existing Switch owners will continue to have access to their games, accessories, Nintendo eShop, Nintendo Switch Online, and other services for the foreseeable future. Battery replacement kits for each revised product will also be sold through Nintendo Store in Europe.
