Tensor G7 Could Arrive With A Key Upgrade That’ll Make Nearly Everything Better About The Pixel 12, Assuming You’re Incredibly Patient

The Tensor G6 won’t be a remarkable upgrade over the Tensor G5 , but we’ve pretty much grown accustomed to Google’s practices for the past few generations. Fortunately, the Tensor G7 is where this streak may be broken because a rumor claims that it’s being tested with an upgrade that could boost the Pixel 12’s overall capabilities. Here are more details for you.

Aside from mentioning that Samsung is preparing three generations of Exynos chipsets , Reptalica also states on X that Google’s Tensor G7 is being prepped with LPDDR5X and LPDDR6 RAM. While we have a hunch that the Mountain View will once again gimp the compute and graphics performance of the Tensor G7, it’s this memory upgrade that can revolutionize the user experience.

Given that Google is trailblazing the AI race, the LPDDR6 RAM upgrade on its upcoming SoC will result in higher memory bandwidth, making it an advantage when running on-device AI operations. We can also assume that switching to the faster and more efficient standard means Google will opt for a higher 96-bit bus width, removing the latency bottleneck and letting the CPU and RAM communicate faster.

Since an LLM is stored in the memory first, the Tensor G7 could receive a massive AI performance boost, even if it means that the CPU and GPU will be a couple of generations behind the competition.

Since a previous rumor claims that AI forced Apple to change the PoP (Package-on-Package) technology to Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module Packaging (WMCM), we foresee Google making the same changes. After all, the last thing the Tensor G7 and the LPDDR6 RAM need is a packaging that’ll compromise their thermals and adversely affect performance.
