The majority of the positive reviews of Black Flag resynced defend the cosmetics, saying that the inclusion of microtransactions for cosmetics is unimportant in a single-player game, but others argue that the perks offered by certain cosmetics, like shorter cooldowns, change the gameplay in meaningful ways. Others have complained that it's not merely the presence of microtransactions, but the fact that Ubisoft is seemingly using Black Flag and its link to Assassin's Creed Shadows to push players to buy the latter game.
