GeForce GTX 960 runs Half-Life 2 on ReactOS using legacy NVIDIA driver at 60 FPS

ReactOS runs Half-Life 2 for over 10 hours on GeForce GTX 960

ReactOS user Aotori Hibiki has published more than 10 hours of Half-Life 2 gameplay recorded on a computer running the open-source operating system. The test used a GeForce GTX 960 and a nightly ReactOS build rather than a virtual machine.

The footage shows the game running at 2560 × 1440 with 6x MSAA and 16x anisotropic filtering. Performance appears to remain close to 60 FPS through most of the recording, although the video does not provide benchmark results or frame-time data.

A legacy NVIDIA Windows driver was installed to provide hardware-accelerated graphics. There is a small discrepancy over the exact release. The YouTube description reportedly lists version 368.81. Windows drivers for a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy card were also installed.

ReactOS is a Windows-like operating system, not a Linux distribution or Wine configuration. Its developers aim to support Windows applications and hardware drivers through an open-source implementation of the Windows NT architecture. The current ReactOS 0.4.15 release remains classified as alpha software, while nightly builds include newer changes with a higher risk of regressions.

ReactOS has a long way ahead, but perhaps despite limited resources and access to open-source documentation, the new AI tools will accelerate the process of bringing Windows-like app support to this otherwise niche operating system which for some reason still carries Windows 95 UI design.
