Faster panel = more victories, just don’t sit this close to your monitor
The blind test involved 31 general gamers and four refresh-rate settings.

LG Display has published results from a company-run study examining how monitor refresh rates affect gaming performance. The test involved 31 adult male gamers who played an FPS game at 60Hz, 240Hz, 360Hz and 480Hz.
Participants experienced the four settings in a random order as part of a blind test. LG measured hit scores and the time between a target appearing and being eliminated. Players also rated motion smoothness, target tracking and overall preference.
Hit scores were up to 38% higher at 480Hz than at 60Hz, according to LG Display. The company also reported an additional 10% improvement when moving from 240Hz to 480Hz. LG referred to the result as an improved win rate, although the measured metric was the number of successful hits rather than match victories.
As a result, it was found that the win rate for a hit score that accurately hits the target improved by 38% at the highest level of 480Hz compared to the lowest level of 60Hz.
Of particular note is that the win rate improved by an additional 10% at 480Hz compared to 240Hz, which had already shown significant improvement. This can be interpreted to mean that gaming performance continuously improves as the refresh rate increases.

The 480Hz setting also reduced input latency by more than 10ms compared with 60Hz. Participants preferred the faster settings and reported that moving targets were easier to follow. LG attributes the results to lower input latency and reduced motion blur at higher refresh rates.
LG’s public release does not identify the FPS game, monitor model, resolution, graphics hardware, test duration or complete statistical data.
Personally, I have not noticed a major improvement in my stats after moving from 60Hz to 240Hz, although I do not play esports games as much as I used to. Have you had a similar experience, or do your results support LG’s research?
