Redditor orders Ryzen 7 7800X3D, receives 9800X3D instead

Buyer pays $350 for Ryzen 7 7800X3D, gets 9800X3D

A Redditor claims that a local Ukrainian retailer sent him a Ryzen 7 9800X3D after he ordered the older Ryzen 7 7800X3D. This appears to be the rare reverse version of the CPU swap scams reported by online buyers.

The user paid 14,400 UAH, around $350, for a tray version of the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D was listed by the same store for 19,500 UAH, or approximately $475, giving him an unexpected $125 upgrade.

The processor arrived with Ryzen 7 9800X3D markings, although the buyer had not yet tested it when the post was published. Several commenters advised checking whether the chip was genuine or previously modified before declaring victory. Well, this may still turn into scam, I guess we will find out once the CPU is fully tested.

I’m not sure how the warranty works here, because the purchase confirmation is for the different CPU, but this seems to be an OEM/tray version without the box, which is technically not supposed to be sold this way anyway.
