ASUS claims perfect ROG Flow Z13 repairability despite soldered RAM and ports

ASUS gave its ROG Flow Z13 a 10/10 repairability score in France, but iFixit does not agree with that rating. Following a complete teardown of the 2025 gaming tablet, the repair group assigned the device a lower score of 7/10.
The French repairability index has been required for several product categories since 2021. It covers documentation, disassembly, spare-part availability, part pricing and product-specific criteria. Manufacturers calculate and report their own scores using a spreadsheet supplied by the French government.

Easy access, but too many soldered components
The ROG Flow Z13 performs well during the first stages of the teardown. Its display can be removed cleanly and provides access to most internal components. The battery uses screws instead of adhesive, while the M.2 SSD and both camera modules are accessible without removing the motherboard.

Other repairs require more work. The speakers sit underneath the battery, while the microSD card reader and modular I/O board are covered by several components. One cooling fan is located underneath the heatsink, which also uses liquid metal on the AMD processor.
The largest deductions come from components soldered directly to the motherboard. The ROG Flow Z13 has soldered memory, wireless hardware and external ports. A failed connector can therefore require motherboard-level repair or replacement, despite the tablet’s otherwise modular internal design.
iFixit also found ASUS’s service documentation incomplete and criticized its replacement-parts system. Parts are easier to purchase in France, while US customers may need to run ASUS diagnostic software and request authorization.
ASUS reports a 10/10 score on its French repairability page, but an Amazon listing reportedly shows 9.3/10. iFixit concluded that the accessible battery, display and SSD make the ROG Flow Z13 reasonably repairable, but not enough to justify a perfect rating.
iFixit’s own scoring system is ideal either. It is unclear how useful LPCAMM2 or SO-DIMM memory would be in an ultra-thin tablet design such as the ROG Flow Z13. The group also awarded a 10/10 score to a Lenovo laptop , despite having an existing partnership with the company.
