Sony’s PlayStation exclusive Astro Bot reaches an early boot stage on PC through SharpEmu

PS5 emulator SharpEmu boots Astro Bot on PC, but the game is not playable

PS5 PC emulation speed running after Sony’s decision to end physical media.

Sony’s Astro Bot has reportedly been booted on PC using SharpEmu, an experimental PlayStation 5 emulator. A screenshot shared by TechDroider credits Discord user RSantila with testing the game through the emulator.

The footage confirms that SharpEmu can begin loading the game. However, it does not show Astro Bot gameplay, stable rendering or a functioning menu. The original claim only states that the game was booted, rather than played. We are probably not going to see playable state for a while, but this is already a massive progress for PS5 games on PCs.

Astro Bot is not playable yet

SharpEmu is an early-stage open-source emulator written in C#. Its developers say the software can load eboot.bin files from real PS5 games, execute native CPU instructions, read game metadata and partially handle kernel functions. Several core components are still missing.

The project’s official tested list currently includes Demon’s Souls, Poppy Playtime Chapter 1, Silent Hill: The Short Message and Dreaming Sarah. Astro Bot is not listed. Demon’s Souls has reached a video loop, while Dreaming Sarah can display a real game texture.

Sony is in FULL PANIC MODE right now

Some reports connected the Astro Bot test with Sony’s recent decision to stop producing physical discs for new PlayStation games in January 2028.

Astro Bot remains exclusive to PS5. Booting its executable through SharpEmu shows that the emulator can process part of the game and its system calls, but it does not mean the title has been fully emulated or can be played on PC.
