AIDA64 gets GeForce RTX 50 Hot Spot sensor support, MSI Afterburner gets community mod

NVIDIA RTX 50 hotspot readings now work in five monitoring tools

GeForce RTX 50 hotspot temperature reporting is now available through multiple monitoring applications. After HWMonitor and HWiNFO added the reading, AIDA64 has introduced official support while MSI Afterburner users have received an unofficial community plugin.

AIDA64 beta version 8.30.8337 lists “ GPU Hotspot temperature measurement on NVIDIA Blackwell ” in its release notes. The update was published on July 15 and makes the sensor available through AIDA64 without requiring NVIDIA’s internal MODS diagnostic software.

MSI Afterburner support remains unofficial

MSI Afterburner developer Alexey “Unwinder” previously explained that he cannot add RTX 50 hotspot monitoring directly. NVIDIA does not expose hotspot or VRAM temperature data through the supported NVAPI interface, so existing implementations rely on private interfaces or direct access to GPU registers.

This creates legal and commercial restrictions for MSI Afterburner because it is distributed as NVIDIA partner-branded software. Unwinder suggested that the community could instead build a third-party monitoring plugin using Afterburner’s existing plugin system.

That plugin appeared within hours. Overclock.net member Talon2016 released BlackwellHotspot.dll, which adds RTX 50 hotspot monitoring to MSI Afterburner. The plugin reportedly reads six temperature values and includes a Hotspot Delta sensor showing the difference between the lowest and highest reading. Its developer warns that the implementation remains experimental and should be used at the owner’s risk. Please do not use random DLL files without checking for viruses first.

IBHE Blackwell Hotpost

Igor’sLAB has also released IBHE, short for igor’sLAB Blackwell Hotspot Estimation. The tool can read Blackwell telemetry directly with administrator rights, while also showing model-based cooling target and envelope values. Igor Wallossek says the six available sensor readings still require validation and interpretation, which explains why HWMonitor, HWiNFO and IBHE can report different hotspot temperatures from the same GPU.

NVIDIA has not responded

VideoCardz contacted NVIDIA to ask whether it plans to restore supported access to the hotspot sensor. We also asked whether future drivers could block the methods now used by monitoring tools and whether NVIDIA intends to provide proper documentation. We have not received a response.

Some developers, including those working on GPU-Z, are waiting for NVIDIA’s answer before deciding whether to implement their own support. However, HWMonitor, HWiNFO, AIDA64 and the Afterburner community have already shown that the data is present and can be accessed. At this point, NVIDIA’s refusal to provide a documented interface is becoming difficult to defend.
