MSI and ASK apologize over failed MAG B760M CPU socket repair
MSI Japan and distributor ASK Corporation have apologized over a paid motherboard repair case involving damaged CPU socket pins.

The owner first reported that the MAG B760M MORTAR WIFI II had several bent LGA1700 socket pins and a damaged expansion-slot retention latch. ASK estimated the repair and related fees at approximately ¥12,000, after which the motherboard was sent in for service.
The motherboard was later returned after parts had reportedly been replaced. However, the owner found another visibly deformed pin in a different section of the CPU socket. A close-up photo shows the affected contact near the upper-left side of the socket (picture above shows before and after).

ASK’s support response said the repaired motherboard had passed its functional checks. The distributor warned that sending it back without a reproducible operating problem would probably result in a “No Trouble Found” classification. It asked the customer to test the board and provide evidence if it failed to start or showed another fault. In other words, they found no problem whatsoever.

MSI and ASK offer a replacement board
Japanese overclocker Takahiro Shimizu said the case had been forwarded to MSI Japan after several people contacted him. Shimizu said the response was unacceptable and that he was also discussing the case with the company.

MSI later explained that repairs involving bent CPU socket pins do not involve straightening individual contacts. Its standard process replaces the complete socket, and the repaired board should leave the factory without any visible pin deformation. MSI acknowledged that deformation was found on the returned product and said it would review the repair and functional testing process with ASK.

ASK also apologized for its handling of the case and confirmed that the customer had been offered a new replacement product. MSI says paid repairs carry a three-month warranty after completion. Neither statement explains how the replacement socket became damaged or how the deformation passed inspection.
