First GeForce RTX 50 hotspot reports prompt board partner to recommend after-sales service

Colorful RTX 5080 reaches nearly 100°C hotspot, support recommends inspection

GeForce RTX 50 owners have started testing their graphics cards after third-party monitoring tools restored access to hotspot temperature readings. HWMonitor 1.65 added support on July 14, followed by HWiNFO, AIDA64 and a community plugin for MSI Afterburner.

NVIDIA does not expose RTX 50 hotspot temperatures through its supported NVAPI interface. The monitoring tools instead rely on direct register access or undocumented interfaces. This means most Blackwell owners had no access to this information until the recent software updates.

Colorful recommends an after-sales inspection

One owner of a Colorful iGame GeForce RTX 5080 Vulcan White reportedly found a hotspot temperature close to 100°C using HWMonitor. The user then contacted Colorful through the company’s Chinese online customer service platform.

According to the support screenshot, Colorful considers graphics card temperatures between 50°C and 90°C normal. The representative said a temperature that remains at 95°C or higher for more than 10 minutes under a heavy workload should be treated as overheating.

Colorful first recommended checking case airflow and dust accumulation. If the temperature remains at or above 95°C under good cooling conditions, the company recommends applying for an after-sales inspection to rule out a cooler fault or another hardware issue. This is the first known case where board partner recommends inspection after new hot spot reporting.

Another Colorful card reportedly reaches 112°C

A separate owner on the NGA forum tested a Colorful iGame GeForce RTX 5090 D Advanced OC. The card reportedly reached a 112°C hotspot temperature with a difference of around 35°C between the standard GPU reading and the hottest sensor. Its fans were said to be running at close to 3,000 RPM.

These two reports do not confirm a wider cooling problem across the GeForce RTX 50 series. However, they show why access to hotspot data can be useful. A standard GPU temperature can remain within its expected range while one area of the die runs much hotter.

We are still in the early stages of GeForce RTX 50 hotspot reporting. Major GPU monitoring tools already support it, while others are waiting for an official statement from NVIDIA. More importantly, the sensor data is not attached to any official documentation, so everyone’s just assuming this is the correct data. In any case, we have not received any statement from NVIDIA. I do not believe that ignoring this will benefit them.
