Jensen Huang’s Tom Ford jacket sells for 16 times its $60,000 estimate

Someone has paid $960,000 for a leather jacket previously worn and signed by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang. The final price would cover approximately 480 GeForce RTX 5090 graphics cards at NVIDIA’s $1,999 launch MSRP, or 240 given current pricing.
The Tom Ford jacket was sold through Sotheby’s on July 17. The auction attracted 65 bids from 45 collectors before closing at 16 times its upper estimate of $60,000.

Sotheby’s listed the jacket with direct provenance from Huang. The auction house said he had worn this style during NVIDIA product announcements, developer conferences and other public appearances for more than a decade.
The auction estimate ranged from $40,000 to $60,000. Similar Tom Ford leather jackets reportedly sell for around $9,000 to $10,000 when new, making the auction result close to 100 times the retail price of an unsigned jacket.
Proceeds will fund technology fellowships and grants
Long Journey Ventures organized the charity auction to benefit the Edge Institute. Sotheby’s said the proceeds will fund fellowships, grants and residencies for people working across technology, science, culture and related fields.
The identity of the winning bidder has not been disclosed.
