Valve replaces £1,000 Steam Machine after it was stolen from buyer’s doorstep
Valve has agreed to send a replacement Steam Machine to a UK customer after the original system disappeared from outside their home. The buyer believes the package was stolen after the courier left it unattended near the front door.
Reddit user mdumtshali said they were at work when the delivery arrived. Their doorbell camera recorded the courier attempting to place the Steam Machine in a designated safe location, but the package did not fit. The courier then left it on the ground and provided a delivery photo.
The system was gone by the time the buyer returned home. The camera did not record whoever collected it because recordings only begin after detecting someone loitering for a set period. The buyer estimated the value of the package at around £1,000.
Steam Support first asked the customer to check whether a neighbor had collected the package. After the search produced no result, Valve confirmed that it would send another Steam Machine rather than issue a refund.
“They’re sending out another one,” the buyer confirmed in an update. The customer praised Steam Support and said they plan to work from home or redirect the second delivery to a collection point.
The shipment reportedly did not require a signature despite its value. Other Steam Machine buyers in the UK, Canada and the US also claimed that their systems were left outside without signature confirmation, although delivery procedures appear to vary between couriers and locations. Valve currently sells the Steam Machine in 512GB and 2TB configurations.
