Steam Deck demand weakens after OLED models move closer to $1,000

Boiling Steam estimates that weekly Steam Deck unit sales may have fallen by as much as 82% following Valve’s price increases. However, the figure is not based on shipment information provided by Valve. It was calculated using Steam’s weekly revenue rankings, assumed revenue ranges and an estimated split between Steam Deck models. It is actually quite interesting how they found these values.
Valve increased Steam Deck OLED pricing on May 27. The 512GB model rose from $549 to $789, an increase of 44%. The 1TB version moved from $649 to $949, representing a 46% increase. Valve attributed the adjustment to rising memory and storage costs.
© SteamDB SteamDB data confirms that the Steam Deck gradually lost positions after returning to stock. It ranked fourth during the week ending June 2, followed by sixth, fifth, eighth, ninth and tenth place over the next five weeks. It then fell to 16th during the week ending July 14.
Boiling Steam estimates that the Steam Deck previously generated between $6 million and $10 million in weekly revenue while ranked around fourth or fifth. It assigns products ranked between tenth and 15th an estimated range of $1.2 million to $2.5 million. The site then divides those figures by an estimated average selling price, which it calculates as rising from approximately $540 to $835. 3
© Boiling Steam Using those assumptions, the analysis places earlier Steam Deck sales at between 11,000 and 18,000 units per week. The post estimates that current sales may have fallen to between 1,400 and 3,000 units. This produces the reported decline of up to 82%, but Valve does not publish weekly Steam Deck revenue or unit sales that would confirm the calculation.
The latest chart also shows that the decline has not continued at the same rate. Steam Deck returned to ninth place for the week ending July 21, gaining seven positions from the previous week.
