GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas are now connected through working portals
© Dryxio GTA modder Dryxio has connected Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas using working portals. Players can walk through each portal and continue playing inside another game without closing the current session.
The latest demonstration places portals around Grove Street in San Andreas. Entering one portal transfers the player to Liberty City and control of Claude, while another opens Vice City and switches control to Tommy Vercetti.

© Dryxio This is a follow-up to the experiment we covered last week . Dryxio previously rendered GTA III on an active television texture inside San Andreas, with both games remaining playable at the same time. A later version placed Vice City inside GTA III while GTA III was already running inside San Andreas.

The portals provide more than a transition between locations. The video shows the player firing through one portal and hitting NPCs in another game. Meaning portals in a way create a single game out of three Rockstar Game titles. Something we will probably never see officially released. It’s unclear if the integration can go further, for instance, allowing police forces to join forces through portals.
According to Dryxio, all three games run inside the same process and share one Direct3D device. Each game operates as a separate engine instance rather than using captured footage or a prerecorded video mapped onto the portal.
