Apple plans MacBook, iMac, Mac mini and Mac Studio updates through 2028

Apple is reportedly preparing updates for every Mac model it currently sells, with launches planned from fall 2026 through 2028. According to Bloomberg, the next releases will include a base 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M6 chip and the first refreshed iMac models in two years.

Development of the M6 MacBook Pro and new iMacs is reportedly complete. Both products are expected to retain designs similar to their current versions and are not expected to ship before the fall. The computers are internally identified as J804 for the MacBook Pro and J833 and J834 for the iMac.

M5 Macbook with OLED is Pro, not Ultra

Apple is also developing redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with OLED touchscreens. The laptops, known internally as K114 and K116 , are reportedly scheduled for release between late 2026 and early 2027. They are expected to use the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips introduced in March rather than the upcoming M6 generation.

Apple M6 for Macbook Pro, M7 series in 2027

A redesigned base MacBook Pro, identified as K104 , is planned for later in 2027 with a standard M7 chip. Apple is also preparing 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air updates for early 2027, though these systems will retain the current design. An OLED MacBook Air is reportedly being considered for 2028.

The desktop roadmap includes Mac mini models with M5 Pro and M6 chips. New Mac Studio configurations are being tested with M5 Max and M5 Ultra processors. Their specifications and launch dates may change because of ongoing memory supply constraints.

Apple is also working on an OLED iMac, though Bloomberg did not provide a launch window. The company is reportedly planning M7 Pro and M7 Max successors to the redesigned MacBook Pro for late 2027 or early 2028.
