GIGABYTE adds CXMT 16Gb and 24Gb DDR5 support to AMD and Intel boards, says CXMT support may ease memory supply pressure

GIGABYTE AM5 motherboards now support CXMT DDR5 up to 8200 MT/s

GIGABYTE has announced wider support for DDR5 memory based on chips from Chinese manufacturer CXMT. The company says the update gives PC builders another source of memory as the industry faces tighter supply and rising prices.

The announcement covers AMD AM5 600 and 800-series motherboards, along with Intel 700 and 800-series platforms. GIGABYTE refers to the memory chips as CXSH (CXMT) throughout its announcement.

AM5 motherboards require a BIOS update

AMD motherboard support arrives through BIOS releases based on AGESA 1.3.0.1c and GIGABYTE’s own memory optimizations. The update adds compatibility with CXMT chips using 16Gb and 24Gb densities.

GIGABYTE claims supported CXMT-based modules can operate at up to 8200 MT/s on AM5. BIOS updates are now available through the support pages for individual AMD 600 and 800-series motherboards. A BIOS released for the B650M GAMING WIFI, for example, lists AGESA 1.3.0.1c and improved CXMT compatibility.

Intel 700 and 800-series motherboards already include CXMT support in their current shipping BIOS. GIGABYTE says these platforms do not require another update, although the announcement does not provide a maximum validated memory speed for Intel systems.

Another source of DDR5 supply

GIGABYTE says wider CXMT support should give buyers more memory options while DDR5 supply remains tight. It does not guarantee lower prices, but it gives memory brands another DRAM supplier to work with instead of relying only on the established vendors.

CXMT currently lists DDR5 chips with 16Gb and 24Gb densities and rated speeds of up to 8000 Mbps. GIGABYTE’s 8200 MT/s result therefore represents an overclocked configuration rather than the standard rating published by CXMT.

As far as we can tell, CXMT-based memory has not yet reached international markets and remains exclusive to China.
