AMD Ryzen 7 9800HX3D reportedly launching with 8 cores and 96MB L3 cache

AMD is reportedly preparing the Ryzen 7 9800HX3D , an eight-core mobile processor with 3D V-Cache. This would be a spiritual sibling to the desktop 9800X3D CPU. According to Golden Pig Upgrade Pack, the processor will feature 8 cores, 16 threads, a boost clock of up to 5.1 GHz and 96MB of L3 cache.

The processor was previously rumored as the Ryzen 7 9755HX3D. AMD has reportedly settled on the 9800HX3D name instead, bringing its branding closer to the desktop Ryzen 7 9800X3D.

Eight-core Fire Range with 3D V-Cache

The Ryzen 7 9800HX3D would become the first eight-core X3D model in AMD’s Fire Range mobile series . The current Ryzen 9 9955HX3D has 16 Zen 5 cores, a boost clock of up to 5.4 GHz and 128MB of L3 cache. AMD lists its default TDP at 55W, with a configurable range of 55W to 75W.

A 96MB L3 configuration suggests that the processor uses one eight-core CCD with 32MB of native L3 cache and an additional 64MB 3D V-Cache stack. This is the same L3 capacity as the desktop Ryzen 7 9800X3D, although the mobile processor is reportedly clocked 100 MHz lower.

Production expected in Q4 2026

Golden Pig Upgrade Pack claims that the Ryzen 7 9800HX3D will enter mass production in the fourth quarter of 2026. The first laptops may appear near the end of 2026, although a broader introduction at CES 2027 appears more likely.

The source also claims that AMD will not require laptop manufacturers to pair the processor with a specific discrete GPU tier. This would allow the 9800HX3D to appear in systems with a wider range of GeForce RTX or Radeon mobile GPUs. AMD has not confirmed the processor or its specifications.
