RTX 3060 12GB ages better than RTX 4060 and RX 7600 in newer game tests
Earlier this month, we reported that the GeForce RTX 3060 12GB had returned to US retail with prices starting at $329. The price remains difficult to justify, but a comparison published by 3DCenter shows that the card has aged better than several newer 8GB models.
3DCenter compared results from the 2023 GeForce RTX 4060 launch review with PC Games Hardware’s updated 2026 raster benchmark suite. The GeForce RTX 3060 12GB was used as the 100% baseline in both data sets.
At 1080p, the RTX 4060 led the RTX 3060 by 23.5% in 2023. Its advantage has now fallen to 18.8%. The Radeon RX 7600 dropped from a 20.7% lead to 11.8%.
The 8GB models lose more ground at higher resolutions
The difference becomes larger at 1440p. The RTX 4060’s advantage fell from 19.4% to 8.5%, while the RX 7600 dropped from 17.3% to 5.0%. At 4K, both cards moved behind the RTX 3060. The RTX 4060 reached 97.2% of its performance, while the RX 7600 scored 94.9%.
© 3DCenter/PCGamesHardware The RTX 4070 moved further ahead of the RTX 3060 in the updated tests, which suggests that this is not a general Ampere driver improvement. According to 3DCenter, the RTX 3060 is retaining its relative position because its 12GB memory capacity avoids some of the limits affecting the RTX 4060 and RX 7600, which both have 8GB.
Important disclaimer: This is not a same-game and same-driver retest. It compares relative positions across benchmark suites from 2023 and 2026. However, the results show why memory capacity can affect how a GPU performs in newer games.
