NVIDIA GeForce driver brings external graphics support to Snapdragon X Elite
© Chaowanke Our friend Chaowanke has demonstrated an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 running as an external GPU with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite laptop. The test used a Lenovo YOGA Air 14s running Windows 11 on Arm.
The graphics card was connected through one of the laptop’s USB4 ports. Chaowanke used a Razer Thunderbolt 5 dock, a Thunderbolt-to-M.2 connection and an M.2-to-PCIe graphics adapter. A standard all-in-one eGPU enclosure should provide the same connection with fewer adapters.
Driver installation requires a manual INF selection
NVIDIA’s installer initially reports that the hardware is incompatible. However, the preview package can be extracted and its ARM64 driver installed manually through Device Manager. The process involves selecting the driver files directly and overriding the compatibility warning.
© Chaowanke Following a black screen and possible restart, the RTX 4060 becomes operational. The demonstration showed the card powering an external monitor at a high refresh rate. Windows initially listed it as a generic NVIDIA Desktop Device , but games correctly identified it as a GeForce RTX 4060.
Chaowanke launched the Cyberpunk 2077 benchmark, which detected the GPU but failed to identify the Snapdragon processor. Forza Horizon 6 also launched, although it ran less smoothly. No benchmark results were provided, so the video confirms functionality rather than expected gaming performance.
GeForce eGPU support gives Snapdragon laptops another option
This appears to be the third ARM platform tested with the preview NVIDIA driver, following recent demonstrations using Huawei and Radxa hardware. Unlike those systems, Snapdragon X laptops are widely available consumer Windows devices. Windows support for the Radxa Dragon Q6A, by comparison, still requires platform-specific driver packages and lacks full wireless support by default.

© Chaowanke The ARM64 driver comes from NVIDIA’s RTX Spark developer preview and is intended for upcoming RTX Spark systems rather than existing GeForce cards or Snapdragon laptops.
Qualcomm has improved Snapdragon gaming support since the first X Series laptops arrived. The company claims more than 100 game fixes, downloadable graphics drivers, AVX2 emulation and better anti-cheat compatibility. A GeForce eGPU can provide more graphics performance, but it cannot remove CPU translation overhead or fix games that require unsupported kernel-level components.
NVIDIA does not officially support this configuration, and the current driver remains a developer preview, but GeForce eGPU support on Qualcomm hardware is now confirmed.
