Intel’s 12 Xe3P Nova Lake desktop chip may require a 65W power tier

Intel’s rumored Nova Lake-S processor with upgraded integrated graphics is reportedly being designed around a 65W-class power delivery segment. According to Jaykihn, this power tier will be required for the 12 Xe3P graphics configuration to reach its full performance.
This is the same preliminary desktop SKU first mentioned in April . The chip was listed with 4 P-cores, 8 E-cores, 4 low-power E-cores and 12 Xe3P cores. It was also the only known Nova Lake-S configuration requiring two VCCGT phases for the graphics voltage rail.
The latest information does not confirm whether 65W refers to the final Processor Base Power specification. Jaykihn specifically describes it as a 65W-level power delivery segment. This suggests that lower-power motherboard configurations may not provide enough graphics power for the full 12 Xe3P configuration.

Intel returns to stronger socketed graphics
The reported power class matches AMD’s standard Ryzen G-series processors. The Ryzen 7 8700G, Ryzen 5 8600G, Ryzen 5 8500G and Ryzen 3 8300G all have a default TDP of 65W. AMD also offers 35W GE variants for systems with tighter power and cooling limits.
Intel has not maintained a direct socketed alternative to AMD’s G-series in recent generations. One earlier exception was the Core i7-5775C from 2015. That 65W LGA1150 processor included Iris Pro Graphics 6200 and 128MB of eDRAM, but Intel did not continue this approach across later mainstream desktop families.
Nova Lake-S may therefore give Intel its first modern socketed APU-class processor with graphics derived from its larger mobile designs. Intel already offers Panther Lake mobile processors with up to 12 Xe3 cores, while the Nova Lake desktop model is expected to use the updated Xe3P architecture.
Intel has not confirmed the Nova Lake-S configuration, graphics clocks, memory support or performance.
