Huawei laptop with Kirin XE90 ARM processor launches August 5
© Huawei/你的大川同学 Huawei has previewed the MateBook Pro S before its full launch in China on August 5. The 14-inch HarmonyOS laptop weighs 798 grams despite using a metal chassis, making it around 432 grams lighter than the 13-inch MacBook Air. Huawei will offer the notebook in five colors.
The MateBook Pro S retains the familiar MateBook design rather than introducing a new exterior. It uses a black keyboard, a large touchpad and a MacBook-style display hinge. Huawei appears to have focused on reducing weight and thickness while keeping the existing design language.
Hands-on images show two cameras on the rear of the display, in addition to the regular webcam above the screen. The extra sensors may support AI-assisted camera features, although Huawei has not confirmed their purpose. The chassis also includes ventilation openings underneath, one USB-C port on each side and a physical camera privacy control.
The laptop uses the Kirin XE90, a new HiSilicon-designed ARM processor developed for Huawei’s HarmonyOS PCs. The chip reportedly has ten CPU cores and reaches up to 2.45 GHz. Listed configurations include 16GB to 32GB of memory and 512GB to 1TB of SSD storage, but Huawei has not disclosed the graphics configuration or manufacturing process.
Huawei will confirm the remaining specifications and official pricing during the August 5 presentation. The retail release date has not yet been announced, although sales in China are expected to begin shortly after the event.
