Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson took home a truly staggering $38,649,984 in total compensation for fiscal year 2026, according to the company's newly filed 10-K report , and the timing couldn't look worse for a publisher that spent the same year cutting jobs across four Battlefield-focused studios despite the game's overall success.
Upon analyzing the report, Wilson's payout breaks down into a $1.3 million base salary, $28.48 million in stock awards, a $6.5 million cash bonus, and $2.37 million in "all other compensation," which reportedly includes personal security services and private jet use. That total marks a jump of roughly $8.12 million , or about 27%, compared to his $30.53 million payout in fiscal year 2025.
EA's filing directly credits Wilson's bonus surge to Battlefield 6 successfully " meeting all milestones for a high-quality launch ," alongside strong performance from other key Electronic Arts titles like EA Sports FC, Apex Legends, and other franchises, as well as the company's newly rolled-out " bold GenAI strategy ." The business performance component of EA's bonus pool was funded at 110% of target, layering on top of a 106.2% payout tied to the company's non-GAAP net revenue of $8.026 billion , which itself beat the $7.85 billion target set at the start of the year.
The uncomfortable backdrop here is that EA laid off staff across DICE, Criterion Games, Ripple Effect, and Motive Studio , the very teams responsible for Battlefield 6's development, on March 9, 2026 , just months after the game became the best-selling title in the US for 2025 . EA framed the cuts at the time as an effort to "better align our teams around what matters most to our community," but the optics of layoffs preceding a record-breaking executive bonus have certainly left a sour impression on fans.
Granted, Wilson wasn't actually the only EA executive to see a substantial payout. CFO Stuart Canfield received $11.32 million in total compensation, up from $9.12 million the year prior, while President Laura Miele earned $13.71 million . For context, EA's own filing notes that the median employee's total compensation for fiscal year 2026 was $126,612 , making Wilson's pay roughly 305 times that of a typical worker at the company.
This isn't a brand-new dynamic for EA. Wilson's compensation has climbed steadily in recent years, from $19.86 million in fiscal 2022 to $25.64 million in fiscal 2024, even as the company has repeatedly trimmed its workforce during the same stretches. Whether shareholders continue to back this trajectory remains to be seen, though EA's 2025 say-on-pay vote saw 90% support, suggesting investors are largely comfortable with the current formula, even as developers on the ground continue to bear the brunt of the publisher's restructuring.
As a reminder, Electronic Arts accepted a $55 billion buyout offer from a Consortium of investors that includes PIF , Silver Lake , and Affinity Partners . The major purchase is still going through regulators, though the European Union has already given its approval.
EA has tried to assuage fears that certain developers ( chiefly BioWare ) might be at risk following the acquisition, but as they say, the proof will be in the pudding. We've seen they are able and willing to cut even successful developers, let alone struggling ones.
