Steam Machine Updates: FSR 4.1 Lands Alongside CAD Files for Custom Faceplates

Since the long-awaited launch of the Steam Machine, Valve has provided periodic updates on the new hybrid game console. Despite Valve's recent confirmations that RAM remains in short supply and at a high cost, the company has said in its latest update that it should be able to offer everyone in the reservation queue the option to purchase a Steam Machine by the end of 2026. After that, Valve will move on to users in the waitlist who have not yet had the chance to place a reservation.

Valve has also confirmed that it has published the CAD files for the Steam Machine's exterior for those who want to create their own faceplates or other accessories. The CAD model is in STEP format, which is widely regarded as a fairly universally accessible and compatible CAD format, and it is published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 (BY-NC-SA) license, which specifies that the files are free to use and modify, but that users must attribute the original creator—in this case Valve—and share any projects they make under the same license.
