To highlight Taiwan’s rich natural resources, cultural diversity, and achievements in sustainable development on the global stage, the National Park Service, Ministry of the Interior (NPS) will host the Formosa Sustainable Conservation International Forum from October 2 to 3, 2026, at the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in Taipei.
Centering on the theme “Formosa: Island of Mountains and Seas,” the event brings together a special exhibition of cross-ministerial sustainable conservation achievements and demonstration itineraries for low-carbon ecotourism. Through this platform, Taiwan aims to showcase its biodiversity and sustainable image of green tourism.
Straddling the Tropic of Cancer alongside, Taiwan stands out with the highest elevation, the most dramatic landscape variations across short distances, the richest vertical ecosystems, and its role as the ancestral origin of the Austronesian language family.
To introduce the full spectrum of Formosa to international visitors, the forum approaches sustainability through multiple lenses—species conservation, habitat preservation, historical and spiritual roots, and Austronesian cultural preservation. By building multi-stakeholder partnerships around four key pillars—Resource Conservation & Environmental Management, Cultural Diversity & Humanistic Aesthetics, Ecotourism & Regional Revitalization, and Universal Education & Environmental Learning—Taiwan is creating an innovative model for biodiversity conservation and sustainable growth.
The forum will bring together cross-sector leaders from government, academia, research, and industry to explore vital topics in biodiversity conservation, sustainable tourism, and cultural education. This collaborative dialogue aims to build actionable bridges between Taiwan and the international community for holistic, long-term sustainability.
Visitors will also enjoy immersive displays and interactive multimedia experiences that bring Taiwan’s conservation journey—from mountain peaks to coastal waters—to life. Highlights include the vibrant synergy between Indigenous cultures and local revitalization efforts, offering a true reflection of Formosa’s harmonious blend of nature and humanity.
To turn sustainable ideals into real-world practices, the NPS is introducing a series of model low-carbon itineraries and scenic showcases. By transforming Taiwan’s unique ecosystems and cultural landscapes into a globally appealing green travel brand, the NPS aims to deepen international market appreciation for Taiwan’s core values through media coverage and industry word-of-mouth.
Through this three-pronged approach—the international forum, the showcase exhibition, and low-carbon travel itineraries—the NPS looks forward to deepening meaningful collaboration with the global community across nature conservation, cultural preservation, and sustainable tourism, continuously expanding Taiwan’s influence in global sustainability.
